Awka security summit:Ozo title holders to de-title members involve in bailing cultistTitus Maduako ElewekeThe Ozo title holders in Awka Anambra State have passed a decree that any Ozo title holder who bail a cultist or make call to set him free shall be be ex-communicated, and, de-titled as Ozo.Ozo title holders who are the custodian of culture made the prounncement at a security summit convened by the member representing Awka 1 constituency at the Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon. Nigeria-Henry Mbachu on Wednesday.The secretary of the Ozo title holders in Awka Ozo Ndu Nwakalor who spoke on behalf of Ndi Ozo stated that they have decreed henceforth that any of their members who facilitated bail from security custody for any criminal suspects would be ex-communicated, and, de-titled as Ozo.According to him,this is part of the solution to solving the Cultism and cult killings in the town. Recalled that cult activities have resulted in the killing of over 34 youths among rival cults groups just within the month of April this year.These killings have forced forced residents to leave in fears of being killed.In his opening speech at the summit, the convener, Hon. Henry Mbachu decried the falling moral values amongst the youth, failure of parents, and, elders to inculcate moral values in their children. According to him,he convened the security summit for the stakeholders to identify the cause of the unfortunate development and proffer solutions to the menace.However,elders and other leaders of Awka blamed politicians who arm youth in pursuit of their political interests .The Stakeholders attributed the falling moral values, and, growing unemployment as the major factors responsible for the current increasing wave of insecurity, especially killings and kidnapping for ransome pavading the area.Presidential general of Awka Women town union, Mrs Ogechukwu Ekwuozor, a lawyer urged various security agencies in the state to prioritise security of the capital city.She bemoaned the falling of moral values, and, urged mothers to take up the challenge of monitoring the behaviour of their children, and, stop shielding them when they indulge in criminalities.A Labour Party, LP, aspirant in the coming 2025 governorship election in the state, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo urged the state government to prioritise security stating that provision of employment opportunities for the youth was critical for fighting insecurity.The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh, and, the member representing Awka-South and Awka-North federal constituency, Prof. Lilian Orogbu who made their contributions at the summit via zoom urged the elders, and, other community leaders to rein in the youth emphasising that security was critical for the investors, and, democracy dividends they are attracting to impact on the area.
