‘how 386 Were Rescued From Sambisa’

D espite the end of Operation Desert Sanity III, which recordedgreat successes in Sambisa forest with the rescue of 386kidnap victims, troops will remain to rid the forest ofterrorists, the Nigerian Army said yesterday. It said the fact that Operation Sanity III had ended didn’t mean an end to operations in the forest, spokesperson of 7 Division Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Lt. Col. A.Y. Jingina told our correspondent in atelephone chat yesterday. The military launched Operations Desert Sanity III to eliminateremnants of terrorists from Sambisa forest. It offered insurgents anoption to willingly surrender for the 10 days the operation lasted.Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa, told The Nationthat the victims were rescued within four days during the operation. He confirmed that the military launched the operation to rid the forest of terrorists ahead of the raining season. On Sunday, the Acting-General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Brig.-Gen. AGL Haruna, announced the rescue of the 386 kidnappedvictims at a news briefing in Konduga local government area of Borno State. The victims were handed over to the Borno State Government inMaiduguri, the state capital, on Monday.Lt.-Col. Jingina said: “The people that were handed over to the stategovernment were the people that were rescued during the operation.“If we organised operations of this nature, the troop is not that theyare going to withdraw soldiers from wherever they are. If we are todo that, they (the terrorists) will come and overrun us. We havesoldiers all over – in Bama, Goza – all over the place, they willcontinue to do their normal routine duty. Not as if they will go andsleep.“The handing over of the kidnap victims is the climax of thatoperation. The operation was to last for four days initially but it endup lasting for 10 days.“If you go for operation and you see that you are gaining successes…that is why the operation lasted for 10 days instead of the initial fourdays. And you can see the success. They recovered some equipment and other things from the Sambisa forest.“Some of the women rescued said that they had been in the forest for over 10 years, but the military went there and rescued them during the operation.”“The Borno State Government will rehabilitate them after which theywill integrate them into the wider society. That is how it is done.”https://thenationonlineng.net/how-386-were-rescued-from-sambisa/mynd44 lalasticlala seun nlfmod fergie001
