The Nigerian Police Force's Special Weapon and Tactics Team (SWAT) is facing legal action for allegedly detaining Dr. Adejare Adegbenro, the International Human Rights Commission High Commissioner in Nigeria, without charge. Dr. Adegbenro who is also the acting DG of NATCOM filed a lawsuit against SWAT for human rights violations, stating he was detained without reason and cut off from communication since April 26. The Coalition of Civil Society Networks, International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and Egbe Omo Yoruba Parapo have also condemned Dr. Adegbenro's prolonged detention without charge, highlighting concerns about his whereabouts and lack of contact since April 26. Dr. Adegbenro was taken into police custody after responding to a summons from SWAT in Abuja on April 26 and remains detained without charge.
