Walter Smith Petroleum Inaugurates PIA Host Community Development Trust in OwerriWalter Smith Petroleum Ltd took a major step forward in its commitment to sustainable community development yesterday with the inauguration of its PIA Host Community Development Trust Management Committee. The ceremony was held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.In compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, the newly formed trust will oversee the management and distribution of the annual fund contributed by Walter Smith Petroleum for host community development projects and initiatives.The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the trust's management committee members, who will guide the strategic direction and operations of the trust. Engr. Victor Eze, a UK-trained engineer and experienced project director, was inaugurated as the Project Manager, heading the executive management team.Other key committee members sworn in included community representatives, civil society organization delegates, representatives from the state government, and trustees from Walter Smith Petroleum itself. This diverse composition ensures transparency, and accountability and balances the interests of all stakeholders.In his remarks, the CLO of Walter Smith Petroleum Ltd, Percy Oparaji, reiterated the company's dedication to creating shared prosperity with its host communities through sustainable development projects in areas like infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic empowerment programs."The PIA Host Community Trust is a gamechanger for how the oil and gas industry engages with communities," Awunor stated.
