Both services were merged to form the Nigerian Marine in 1914.The Nigerian Marine was broken up to create 3 organisations ahead of Nigeria's independence. The first was the Nigerian Ports Authority, the second was the National Inland Waterways Department and the third was the Nigerian Naval Force, which was created in 1956.The Nigerian Navy is thus celebrating its 68th anniversary.Activities lined up to mark the occasion include an international maritime conference, a naval exercise, interdenominational Christian and jumat services, polo and gold tournaments, ceremonial sunset and dinner, medical outreach and the commissioning of new naval vessels.Here are photos of some of the events.
