Benue Assembly Passes Youth Development Bill Into LawBy Amos Aar THE BENUE State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Benue State Youth Development Commission, implementation of a Sustainable Youth Policy and other Matters Connected there-with into law.According to the chief press secretary to speaker of the assembly, Mr Terver Zamber, the bill was passed at Tuesday’s plenary presided by the speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.Making his presentation on the floor of the house, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako, said the bill seeks to create job opportunities, reduce youth restrictiveness and enhance economic growth.Hon. Dyako noted that the bill now recognizes the creation of zonal offices for youth affairs in each of the zones of the State that would address youth matters and urged the house to support the bill.Contributing, member representing Adoka/Ogboju State Constituency at the assembly, Hon. Michael Audu, supported the bill, saying when passed, it will take many youths out of the streets.Member representing Oju 1, state constituency, Hon. Blessed Onah described the bill as youth friendly, saying if implemented, youth of the State will be gainfully employed thereby creating productivity and giving them a sense of belonging.Also, during Plenary, the House passed into law, a bill to amend public procurement commission law, 2020 and for other purposes connected there-with.Leading the debate, Majority Leader of the house Hon. Saater Tiseer said the amendment would help the Governor to be more expedient in the execution of projects.He noted that subjecting to procurement law all the times would delay the Governor and his good plans of working for the development of the State.Members agreed that the amendment would ensure a speedy development in infrastructural development of the state, while creating a favourable working condition for the governor to place the State on the path of development.National Record has observed that the 10th Benue Assembly has passed about ten bills within the month of May, 2024.
