Nigeria We Hail Thee Was Rejected By Nigerians In 1960

Yeah. You read right!! A vocal majority of Nigerians were against the anthem "Nigeria we hail thee" in 1960. In fact, the anthem seems to be more divisive than uniting. Nigerian musicians railed against the fact that over 500 entries from Nigerians were ignored in favour of British entries. Not only that, they proved that the tune was a product of plagiarism of an English hymn. Imagine singing a plagiarised tune as our national anthem. Even Radio Nigeria had to stop playing it at a point due to the level of opposition to the song. All these prompted Egbe Omo Oduduwa aka AG to gather signatures against the song. Arise O' Compatriots on the other hand was much better and well received in 1978. Nlfpmod, fergie001 this deserves front-page too.
