June 12: If June 12 Was Free & Fair Why Did We Jettison Option A4?

A lot has been written and said about June 12. That election was said to be the freeest election in Nigeria democratic journey. However, would we say that June 12 was the fairest electionin Nigeria history? My answer would be NO!Here are my reasons;1. Option A4: June 12 was based on Option A4. That is the system that allows voters to queue behind the candidate or party of their choice. It behoves transparency and devoid of ballot box snatching. However, political actors were against it because, the open ballot system does not give room for privacy. Hence, if you find yourself queueing behind a loser, you could switch while counting was still on-going.2. Credible candidates were unecessirily disqualified to pave way for two "amenable" candidates, who were friend and acquaintances to IBB.3. Both SDP and NRC were Federal Government institutions. Using government institutions for political offices and indeed using civil servants to run those institutions meant that the winner would stiffle the opposition party of funds and survival.4. Tofa was a mere LGA chairman, who was pitched against a business mogul and celebrated sponsor of Museveni's coup. Hence there was no challenge. 5. IBB did not want to leave office. No matter what anyone like to say, the military did not want to hand over. This informed his decision to strategically position his two friends as candidates of SDP and NRC. Unfortunately, Abiola appears to have reneged on the part of the arrangement, hence the annulment.
